Ever wonder why it's so hard to get back on track
after a holiday? Post-Holiday Blues are one of the reasons.
The Post-Holiday Blues, also known as the Post-Vacation
Blues, is a condition in which a person feels unprepared to return to their
post-holiday work routine.
Psychologist Dr. Eileen Kennedy-Moore describes the
post-holiday blues phenomenon as "the abrupt withdrawal of stress hormones
after a major event, be it a wedding, an important deadline, or the holidays,
[leaving] a profound impact on our biological and psychological
well-being."
This condition usually starts with feelings of
sadness, guilt, anger, or dissatisfaction and can progress to insomnia,
irritability, decreased appetite, difficulty concentrating, anxiety, and other
symptoms.
Don’t Worry! To get your motivation back, we
gathered some tips for you all.
1. 1. Set a work schedule.
Many people who work after the holidays are even
more stressed because they see the pile of work that is there. Setting a work
schedule is guaranteed to make you productive and not overwhelmed when you face
the many jobs that await you.
2. 2. Get enough sleep.
Lack of sleep will only make the post-holiday blues
worse. Make sure you get enough rest to avoid panic attacks, anxiety, or even
depression. Try to get at least eight hours of sleep before returning to work
after a holiday or vacation. Sleep will improve your brain as well as your
overall mood.
3. 3. Give yourself space.
Be prepared at least twenty
minutes early on your first day back to account for any remaining assignments
from your vacation or to catch up with coworkers. You'll thank yourself later
when you feel more comfortable, organized, and on top of your responsibilities
throughout the day.
And last but not least, be patient because the
post-holiday blues don't last forever. With a little bit of preparation and
self-motivation, you will get back on track in no time.
